architecture of the British Isles, inviting readers to explore the modern past of Great Britain and rebuild some of its most intriguing post-war edifices, from the iconic slabs of Sheffield`s Park Hill and London's Trellick Tower, to the demolished Birmingham Central Library.

Opening with a foreword by architectural historian Barnabas Calder, the book includes short chapters with full-page colour illustrations and informative texts on each building, along with 9 press-out paper models featuring all kinds of details originally present on the facades. Belgrade to Berlin – this photobook provides previously unseen documentation of the remaining modernist booths that witnessed the socio-political transformation of Central and Eastern Europe at the end of the 20th century. While some remain active or have undergone refurbishment, others have been abandoned or have slowly faded from the urban landscape. The photographs in this unique collection were taken over the last decade by Zupagrafika’s founders, David Navarro and Martyna Sobecka. The book includes a foreword by urban explorer Maciej Czarnecki and an introduction by architectural historian Anna Cymer, offering invaluable insights into the history of these mobile structures.

MEET THE PUBLISHER

Zupagrafika

Zupagrafika is an independent publisher, author and graphic design studio established in Poznań, Poland, in 2012. Some remain active performance venues; others are undergoing restoration following a period of neglect. Together, they reveal a lesser-known chapter of postwar modernist architecture shaped by ideology and mass entertainment.

Through striking photographs and insightful narratives, the first part of Cirk explores the history and architecture of these landmark buildings.
