“In The Organic Company, we work with organic cotton as it matters!
We make thorough design as we believe in the-less-but-better-way-of-living.

Honesty, transparency and an ambitious wish to make a difference is a rock solid foundation for the company, founded by entrepreneur Joy Vasiljev in 2007.

Since then, the company has developed a large collection of organic textiles for the home, which includes textiles for the bath, kitchen, travel and meditation. The products are designed by The Organic Company and, from time to time, co-designed with selected Danish designers.”

GOT certified

All products are made of organic cotton and certified with the international organic standard GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). This standard focuses on 2 major areas; environment and social responsibility, and guarantees that all fabrics are free from toxins and heavy metals, and international workers rights are respected.

Organic cotton is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre. It benefits cotton producers and the environment in developing countries by avoiding the harmful effects of toxic pesticides, and the reduced cost of production improves social conditions.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

The aim of the standard is to define world-wide recognised requirements that ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

SPECIFICATION

Dimensions

  • Made in: Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Brand/maker: The organic company
  • 30 x 39 x 12 cm
  • Material: Heavy canvas

Canvas is sensitive to stains, sunlight, and cannot handle being soaked for too long. It will lose some of its natural stiffness and develop an uneven structure. That being said, canvas is strong, long lasting, and will age gracefully.

Material & Care

Material/fabric: 100% GOTS certified organic cotton.

Washing/care instructions

  • It’s always a good idea to treat and wash stains immediately. No need for prewashing; it’s organic.
  •  Machine wash at 20 to 60℃ (68-140 F) (only wash canvas when really necessary, try to surface wash first).
  • When washing canvas, visible marks/folds will appear, as the fabric is dense.
  • Wash at lowest possible temperatures.
  • To be washed inside out.
  •  Do not tumble dry.
  • Avoid using softener as this reduces the absorbency of the product and most softeners are harmful for nature (if not 100% cleansed at the wastewater treatment plant)
  •  Avoid the use of bleach (alone and in detergent) as this affects the colours.
  •  Wash with similar colours.

Variations

  • Product code:
    Black 10136
    Clay 10139
    Dark blue 10138

MEET THE MAKER

”I see a world out of balance. We have to face the real problems out there. Next to climate change, we have an over-consumption out of control, we have extinction of a vast amount of insects and animals, we leave behind polluted soil and take over more and more untouched land.”

It all started for Joy Vasiljev with a lot of questions. Why is it so hard to find textiles that combine great design with organic materials? Why do we have to choose between the two?

In 2007, The Organic Company was established with the clear mission of proving that a responsible business is good business.

It was not an easy start. The world simply wasn’t ready. And people were unaware of the extremely dirty industry of cotton. Now, 12 years later, The Organic Company produces more than 200 different products and exports to more than 26 countries.

Today, Joy is an important voice in the debate on organic lifestyle, environment and sustainability. She teaches and gives speeches in order to open people’s eyes to the fact that there are different and better ways of doing things.

Good intentions aren’t enough. Change demands action.
