MALIN + GOETZ is a skin and body care laboratory based in New York, that combines trusted natural ingredients with advanced technology to create uncomplicated luxury skincare and fragrance for the modern, design-conscious individual. The company was founded by Matthew Malin & Andrew Goetz, who opened their first flagship store in March 2004. The stores, while modern in every way, are reminiscent of traditional neighbourhood apothecaries: brimming with activity, wonderful treatments and great customer service.

Effervescent and bright, like the sun-soaked trees in southern Italy upon which its namesake ingredient grows, Bergamot expresses the full complexity of a citrus orchard in bloom. Reminiscent of earl grey tea and classic perfume and apothecary preparations, Bergamot is a multifaceted interpretation of a timeless fine fragrance.
Bringing to mind lazy afternoons spent dwelling on a favorite record and the lingering smokiness that clings somewhat inconveniently to clothes, Cannabis balances rich, spicy and herbaceous aromas with soft, floral notes of muguet and magnolia. Inspired by the old world bay rum, Dark Rum is a refreshing reinvention of a traditionally dark and spicy aroma. Sweetened with ripe plum and crisp bergamot, notes of leather, rum and creamy milk are blended into an intoxicating mix that adapts perfectly to its wearer. Both alluringly warm and fresh, just a spritz of Dark Rum leaves a deep and indelible longing for all those places we’ve been – as well as those we’ve yet to visit.
Nodding to the centuries old practice of fragrancing artisanal leather goods with custom perfumes, Leather is a modern update that marries rawness and refinement. Muted florals mirror the elegance of smooth leather while rustic wood notes call to mind the softness of a well-worn vintage find. Intimately shaping itself around the wearer like a second skin, Leather is a fragrance that only gets better with time.
A reimagined interpretation of the common garden strawberry – deconstructed and unexpected. This fragrance stimulates the senses using a dynamic blend of fresh and bright notes of bergamot and pink pepper with warm musks, jasmine petals, and orris root to reveal a memorable, genderless scent.
Rooted in the complexities of the tropical grass from which it was distilled, Vetiver is a refined expression of an apothecary ingredient with a long and storied history in perfumery. Created to highlight the intrinsically clean and earthy aroma we are most fond of, this considered fragrance eschews the heavy smokiness usually associated with the modern iteration of the scent.
Matthew Malin
Matthew began his career in the executive training program at Saks Fifth Avenue. He later went on to work at three distinct family-owned companies: first as a cosmetic buyer at Barneys New York, then overseeing global sales for Kiehl’s, and finally developing Prada’s beauty division and managing Helmut Lang Parfums. These experiences, along with his history of suffering from skin conditions such as eczema, seborrhea and rosacea, helped Matthew identify an opportunity for a local, family-owned brand creating simple but luxurious products.
Andrew Goetz
For ten years preceding the launch of Malin + Goetz, Andrew worked as US Marketing Director for the family-owned, Swiss-based design manufacturer Vitra. His keen eye for design is reflected in our stores’ modern interpretation of the traditional apothecary as well as our chemist’s label-inspired, minimalist packaging. During Andrew’s tenure at Vitra, he found and cultivated the careers of emerging architects and industrial designers, many of whom would be later tapped to collaborate on Malin + Goetz branding and store designs.
