This ceramic matcha bowl is finished in Ocean Blue, a layered glaze created from multiple blue tones that melt and flow together in the kiln. Hand-thrown, glazed, and fired at 1230ºC, the surface captures shifting depths of colour reminiscent of moving water and tidal gradients.

The spout design allows for a clean, controlled pour, making it especially suited for preparing and serving matcha.

With its handmade nature, each bowl reveals its own unique pooling, layering, and transitions of blue. No two pieces are alike — every bowl carries its own rhythm and movement.

Eren Armitage

JEren Armitage is a ceramicist originally from Yokohama, Japan, now practising from a quiet studio in the English countryside. Her work draws equally on her Japanese heritage and the natural rhythms of her adopted landscape, resulting in stoneware and porcelain vessels that balance form and surface. Each piece invites a moment of stillness—objects made for use, but also for reflection.

Eren’s path into ceramics began while working in community studios, where she first developed an interest in the dialogue between material and maker. Over time she established her own workspace in a converted mill, surrounded by long fields and shifting weather that continue to influence her approach.

Her practice bridges tradition and experimentation: the precision of Japanese making meeting the elemental forces of nature. This is expressed through quiet materials, measured rhythm, and a sense of enduring presence. She works in small, intentional batches, refining wheel-thrown forms by hand and favouring muted palettes that allow texture and detail to take the lead. Collections are released a few times each year through her website and tend to sell out quickly.
