Danish design company, Muuto, was founded by Peter Bonnén & Kristian Byrge in 2006. The name comes from the Finnish word ‘muutos,’ meaning new perspective. Muuto is rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition characterised by enduring aesthetics, functionality, craftsmanship and an honest expression. By expanding this heritage with forward-looking materials, techniques and bold creative thinking, the ambition is to deliver new perspectives on Scandinavian design. Based in Copenhagen, Muuto collaborates with leading contemporary designers, combining their talents with the passionate Muuto creative team.
Muuto has committed to a number of changes to be more environmentally friendly. They pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions connected to their operations and designs by 50% by 2030. All of the wood used in all their products will be from certified sustainable forestry, and wood used in all packaging must be either recycled or from certified sustainable forestry. By 2025 they will eliminate styrofoam from their packaging, and reduce their use of virgin plastic, using recycled plastic at least 75% of the time. Finally, they will offer spare parts where applicable so their designs will last for generations.
