Sucabaruca Collection
Winner of the Wallpaper Design Award and Juror’s Choice.
Part of the latest edition of the Sucabaruca Coffee Set has been carefully crafted by Kihara Ceramics.
Design by Luca Nichetto and Lera Moiseeva, joint development with Mjolk of Toronto

The finish of the set, a glossy white, showcases the traditional glaze work of the studio. Kihara, a Japanese porcelain producing company based in Arita, Japan, has been hand-crafting ceramic wares for over 400 years. The company still produces work with techniques that have remained unchanged while also incorporating new technologies to enhance the nature of the material.

The Sucabaruca Coffee Set is rich in cultural and formal references that come from the influences of several people involved in the project. The main cone-shaped body is reminiscent of Carmencita, the famous character created by Armando Testa in 1966 for the tv show Carosello.
The lines in the ceramic are meant to emphasize the uniqueness of the pieces which can be stacked and combined in various ways. Set includes pot, filter funnel and 3 cups.

Meet the Maker
Mjölk
” Scandinavia and Japan are two places we’ve traveled to and they had a profound impact on our ideas about design and architecture, but a lot of philosophical aspects resonated with us as well. As for how Scandinavia connects to Japan, I think there’s a reverence for nature and an almost spiritual connection to it, which is really important. ”
— John Baker, co-founder
The name, ‘Mjölk;, means in ‘milk’ in Swedish - and is representative of the brand’s core value when it comes to design: pure, honest and essential. The couple live in a flat above their concept store, and consider the apartment an extension of sorts of the Mjölk brand. As such, they have carefully considered their living space, and use it for inspiration in design projects.
