This tiny starlit cabin sees glamping reach new heights.
Mounted on a pair of skis on top of the Dolmites, some two kilometres above sea level, the Starlight Room fuses extreme isolation with serious creature comforts.
Its modest confines are home to a comfy sofa bed, a stereo system, toilet amenities and a flatscreen TV. Chances are you won’t be watching much telly as theres a much better show going on overhead.
Glass walls and ceilings offer an unparalleled view of the surrounding mountains and star packed sky, untarnished by the usual light pollution. Most exciting, however, is the sense of genuine adventure – all to often lost in a well mapped age when any spectacular destination tends to be spoilt by, well, an excess of other people.
Given the cabin is only accessible by hiking, snowmobile or fat biking, you can relax here knowing its just you, your beau and the universe. Sleeping out under the stars is great, but it’s an activity that is almost totally confined to the summer months.
Or at least that was the case before lodge owner Raniero Campigotto found a way to accommodate stargazers well into the winter with this climate controlled ‘Starlight Room’.
