Skye Corewijn
Skye Corewijn is a potter from Cape Town who now lives and works in London. She produces hand thrown pieces with clean and simple silhouettes, designed to invite touch and enhance daily ritual. Skye studied history, literature and media at Cape Town University, and moved to London after graduating in 2010. Whilst working in the music industry, she began making pottery as a hobby in 2013.
Pottery grew from a hobby to a passion, and soon her life shifted to accommodate more and more time spent at the wheel. She began to teach classes in pottery, and was receiving more and more commissions from London restaurants and eateries.
“The process was all pretty organic; I have always been self employed; working on project based stuff, having to hustle to fill in the gaps.”
Skye now produces all of her work from her East London studio. She has her own store on Hackney Road called Klei, where she presents her own pieces and some from other makers. Her stoneware is easily recognisable due to stunning tactile finishes, organic forms, and warm glazes.
“I like my work to be super nice to use. For me, the joy people get out of using my pieces is of most importance.”
