Oddity Fragrance
Based in Hong Kong, creative studio Oddity have crafted a line of niche fragrance which exemplifies their dedication to storytelling, concept and artistry. The mind behind the brand is interdisciplinary design director, Alice Mourou. Her work is concept driven and often described as a distilled essence with nothing to add or remove.
Since 2021 Oddity has composed three unique scents – Naked Dance, Dead Air, and Resonant – each born from one of Oddity’s own written stories. It was the task of master perfumers, Mark Buxton and David Chieze, to translate these into stunning olfactory compositions. Oddity Fragrance’s visual language embodies not only the nuance of its rare, raw ingredients but the awakening of emotions and energy they conjure, championing the brand’s commitment to storytelling as well as the interplay between what is visible and what is not.
Oddity’s meticulous approach continues to the unique design of the bottles and packaging. The bottles are carefully designed artifacts – unique and beautiful in their own right. Each cap is one of a kind made by hand from raw materials encapsulated in epoxy resin. The packaging presents the fragrance in a beautifully tactile way and is the first page of a story yet to unfold.
The packagings are connected with the fragrance olfactory profiles. For example, Naked Dance’s use of Carvetian Suede and Neenah Cotton to reflect the sensitivity of the fragrance’s themes; Dead Air used Antalis Refit Wool Black for the box, as it’s raw like rocks to the touch; and Resonant’s box with Neenah Mirror for its cold metallic reflection, and Neenah’s traditional Japanese paper for the labels speaks for the perfume’s effortless finesse.
