Kettl
is a Japanese tea company dedicated to bringing the finest teas of Japan to a global audience. The brand was founded in 2010 by Zach Mangan following a solo trip across Japan where Zach discovered that many of the best tea products were reserved for the domestic market. This sparked a desire to shorten the supply chain and introduce international tea lovers to Japan’s pinnacle-grade teas.
Zach and his wife, Minami, spent two years building relationships with some of Japan’s most esteemed tea producers, particularly from rural, hard-to-reach areas where small yields and high demand make sourcing a challenge. Now, 15 years later, Kettl has curated the most diverse range of authentic Japanese teas in the Western market.
Kettl’s unique approach lies in its direct relationships with growers and producers across Japan. The company operates out of both Brooklyn and Fukuoka, making it the only Japanese tea company fully incorporated in both Japan and the US. Teas are shipped on a weekly basis from producers to Kettl’s Fukuoka office, where they are processed, packed, and stored in oxygen-free packaging before being air-shipped to the US, ensuring peak freshness.
With a presence at origin and deep roots in Japan’s tea culture, Kettl is invested in the future of Japanese tea, sharing the craft of small, rural tea farms with tea enthusiasts around the world. Kettl continues to bridge the gap between Japan’s most distinguished tea producers and discerning customers through their flagship cafe in New York, and their second cafe which opened in 2024 in Los Angeles.
