Morihata

Founded in 2005 by husband and wife team, Kaz & Yuka Morihata, Morihata International introduces the elegance and craftsmanship of authentic Japanese lifestyle products to the Western world. With a deep appreciation for the time-honoured traditions and artistry of Japan, Morihata serves as an exclusive distributor for a curated list of well-established Japanese brands, making their innovative products accessible outside of Japan.

Kaz & Yuka first met as undergraduates at the Rhode Island School of Design and later worked in design and architecture firms in both New York City and Tokyo. Upon their return to Japan, Yuka rediscovered the detailed craftsmanship that had shaped her upbringing. This reconnection fuelled the couple’s passion for introducing contemporary works of Japanese artisans to a global audience.

From the traditional looms of Imabari, known for its high-quality textiles, to the tea fields of Kirishima, where centuries-old traditions thrive, Morihata carefully selects products that reflect the grace, nobility, and tactile sensibilities of modern Japanese design. Their selections aim to evoke the beauty of simplicity and the artistry woven into Japan’s cultural heritage.

In 2009, the couple founded Rikumo, a Japanese lifestyle brand. Through their brick-and-mortar store in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and an online platform, Rikumo connects Japanese artisans with those who appreciate quality, craftsmanship, and minimalist design.

Morihata and Rikumo are committed to sustainability, continuously working to reduce their carbon footprint. The company actively seeks to minimise waste through eco-friendly packaging and the repurposing of shipping materials. Their dedication to sustainability aligns with the values of the artisans they represent, fostering a mindful approach to life and work.

Through their mission to promote the art of thoughtful, sustainable living, Yuka and Kaz Morihata have built a bridge between Japan and the world, offering a glimpse into the centuries old tradition of Japanese craftsmanship behind each and every product.
