Catherine Lewis Design
Catherine Lewis Design, named after it’s founder, is based in Cardiff, Wales. Catherine Lewis Edwards previously worked in the US and London as a womenswear print designer for brands like Abercrombie & Fitch. After 7 years she began to crave a more creative lifestyle outside of the fashion industry, and so Catherine Lewis Design was born in 2016 to merge her love of botanicals, illustration and print design.
“I’ve always been drawn to florals and plants, and have been collecting vintage botanical books for years. I’d spend any free weekends and evenings drawing. It was a trip to Columbia Road Flower Market one weekend, where I bought a bunch of King Protea flowers to draw that really ignited something in me to do this for a living! As soon as I drew that very first Protea illustration I knew!“
Catherine creates all the illustrations and designs by hand, where she captures as many details as possible with a pen and a pencil. A specimen will be studied and photographed. There is a huge archive of reference photos that she’s built up over the years, thanks to her love for all things plants. The illustrations are then scanned and digitally coloured using lots of various brushes and layers in Photoshop. All of the products are designed, made, packed and shipped from a little home studio in Cardiff, Wales.
Catherine Lewis Design creates beautiful botanical products in the form of greeting cards in English and Welsh, stationery, art prints and soft furnishings with her delicate illustrations and is stocked in stores worldwide.
