Handmade porcelain mug. The unique design in which the handle seems to flow seamlessly from the body was made possible through the use of a technique called slip casting. Slurry is poured into a plaster mould. The atmospheric finish is achieved by applying a specially formulated glaze onto the clay which contains iron.

The Moderato series is designed by Katsuhiko Ogino, a member of the Craft Center Japan, where Kai Frank was an advisor in the 1960s, and brings the tradition of Setoware into the modern age. The colours and shapes are reminiscent of Scandinavian design, and can be used in both Japanese and Western settings. The handle has a unique indentation that makes you want to put your finger on it. Just looking at these moderato mugs will make you feel relaxed.
