WOHA Parfums
WOHA Parfums is a project that was born from Spanish architecture studio, World Of Holistic Architecture. The purpose of the project is to investigate the relationship between architectural spaces and the perception that people have of them, understood as the primary focus of architecture. People perceive space through the senses, sight, touch, hearing and smell. The latter is the sense in which this project is based.
Architecture is a complex discipline where technique, humanism, and art converge, with the primary objective of satisfying the needs of individuals and society as a whole. Within this framework, an unusual yet intriguing connection emerges: the relationship between architectural space, aromas, and fragrances. In this context, WOHA Parfums immerses itself in artistic expression through scent.
The fusion of architecture and fragrance extends beyond mere association—it is about discovering a means of expression, evoking spaces, and capturing moments through the evolving phases of each scent. Both the perfumer (Alejandro Ponsá) and the architect (Antonio Maciá) share the exploration of their respective environments, employing their skills and methods to craft distinctive sensory experiences.
“In our project Liquid Architecture, we present a collection of ten fragrances inspired by past architectural projects in Elche and its surroundings. Each perfume is intricately linked to its architectural counterpart, revealing its origins, conditions, and conceptual foundations. This connection between two seemingly different worlds—united by a shared starting point—makes the exploration all the more fascinating.“
– Antonio Maciá, founder
The first fragrance in the Liquid Architecture Collection, Calahorra, draws inspiration from an architectural competition to design a café in Elche’s historic district. The Calahorra Tower, shaped by centuries of transformations, serves as a foundation for the project. Rather than competing with its surroundings, the architectural proposal seeks to integrate harmoniously, extending the urban space while introducing greenery into the environment.
The perfumer immerses themselves in the olfactory experience of the location, observing how scents shift throughout the day and night. Factors such as temperature, humidity, and daily activities influence the evolving aroma of the space. This meticulous process results in a fragrance that encapsulates the essence of its unique setting.
Both disciplines share fundamental principles—harmony, proportion, and balance – essential to the creation of architectural spaces and fragrances alike. WOHA Parfums seeks to build sensory narratives through these two art forms, telling stories in a deeply personal way.
The creative process behind Liquid Architecture also pays homage to the traditional craftsmanship of architecture. The bottles and packaging evoke the scent of ink once absorbed by architectural plans rolled in cardboard tubes. Each fragrance not only captures the essence of a design but stands as a tangible work of art, celebrating the intersection of two worlds.
