Yangon, Myanmar

Founded in Myanmar in 2020, Gabar is a niche fragrance brand holistically inspired by its Southeast Asian heritage. Co-founders, Phway Su Aye and Su Zar Wain Hnin, are childhood friends who grew up together in Myanmar, but both left in their late teens. The name, Gabar, means ‘world’ in Burmese, and is an ode to their mission to create a more conscious, creative and inspired world.

Contains 2ml of three fragrances: 01 Float, 02 Ground, & 03 Swim.

A sophisticated floral fragrance with an edge. Wade into a scent inspired by the still waters of Myanmar’s Inle Lake, with Gabar 01 Float eau de parfum. Its lapping floral notes with edges of amber, white musk and bergamot are made for moments of letting go and letting loose.

Step into a scent inspired by Myanmar’s ancient capital of Bagan, with Gabar 02 Ground eau de parfum. The deep and complex notes of wood bark, with creamy undertones of sandalwood, saffron and fig are reminiscent of the past, yet powerfully root you in the present.

Discover a scent born from the jungle region of Hpa-An, Myanmar — Gabar 03 Swim eau de parfum. Verdant and lush, its notes of fig and blackcurrant bud meet a mossy base of cedarwood and amber to create a fresh and energetic fragrance that makes you feel in flow.

Rise reflects on the hidden rituals of the city morning. Rise is a soothing, skin-like & expansive concoction, opening with gentle notes of juniper & pink pepper, leading into an aching heart of lavender, cypress & lily of the valley, and rounding off with a soft pool of amberwoods & cashmere wood.

Lull reflects on the hidden rituals of the city evening. A sweet but social concoction, Lull opens with notes of orange blossom & black tea, before leading into a fun & tangy heart of red apple, cherry & rose, and rounding off with an alluring base of sandalwood & white musk.

Gabar really came from two key threads: wanting to bring our heritage and South East Asian history to the world stage, especially in a category that doesn’t have as many South-East Asian viewpoints, and building a brand that really touched on these ideas of the internal pursuit of mindful and conscious living and translated those ideas in a fresh and approachable way.
— Phway Su Aye, co-founder
With renowned perfumer Ruth Mastenbroek, Gabar have developed three fragrances inspired by three specific locations in Myanmar. Each multidimensional fragrances also represents a type of presences of the mind inspired by Buddhism.
Both of us are Buddhists by birth and that Buddhist philosophy is so ingrained in us. When we started this brand, we conceived of it more as like three bottles that channel that message of mindfulness and conscious living.
— Phway Su Aye, co-founder
Gabar set up the Gabar for Myanmar initiative to support Myanmar’s youth. 10% of their profits go to a charity called Prospect Burma – an organisation helping young people gain higher education and skills in Myanmar. They have have aspirations to set up their own foundation to take these initiatives further and do more to support Myanmar.
