MEET THE MAKER

Homework

Homework is a London-based sensory studio founded by Stephanie Hannington-Suen, whose work explores the relationship between design, ritual, and wellbeing. The name ‘Homework’ captures the brand’s central idea – the meeting point between home and work, between stillness and activity. Each product is created with the intention of transforming everyday spaces into places of grounding and reflection, blurring the line between what we use and how we live.

At its heart, Homework is a fragrance brand. Its collection includes candles, essential-oil blends, diffusers and perfumes, all carefully composed to evoke atmosphere and emotion. Each product is made in small batches using natural ingredients – like rapeseed and coconut wax, pure essential oils, and recycled glass vessels – to ensure a clean, mindful, sensory experience. Scents such as Wood, a blend of pine, ho leaf, cedar and vetiver, embody calm and renewal, while others draw from the shifting balance of the five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.

Stephanie’s creative vision is deeply informed by her Chinese heritage and family history. Her grandmother, Popo, gathered herbs in the mountains of Tai Po, and her parents, who migrated to Manchester in the 1980s, established a clinic rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Homework pays homage to this lineage, weaving ancient wisdom into contemporary form. Each scent is a quiet dialogue between past and present — a sensory language that honours nature, balance, and care for the body and spirit.

Sustainability is another cornerstone of Homework’s philosophy. The brand operates with transparency and responsibility, choosing renewable materials, avoiding excess packaging, and encouraging customers to reuse or recycle containers. As a member of 1% for the Planet, Homework donates a portion of its revenue to environmental causes, aligning its ethos of balance with tangible ecological action. This commitment reflects the same values that underpin its scents: interconnectedness, awareness, and respect for natural cycles.
